Ice fishing time

Now is the time to go ice fishing, if the lake will  get making ice. it is only about 2 1/2'' thick under the 3-4" of frozen snow. I do not like going out until the real ice is 5-6" so it has some growing to do. I think that when people count the melted snow on top as ice they are taking a chance since it is not strong and is just added weight to the good ice.  I look for the ice to be good in a week or so and will just have to keep the ice skating rink by shore smooth for the boys while waiting for the ice to get thick.
The first ice fishing trips are usually some of the best fishing compared to any other time of the year. The jumbo perch and walleye will come into the shallow water for the first couple weeks then move to deeper water. visit http://www.whitebirchresort.net/ for more information
